January 31 is the deadline for companies to file W-2 and 1099 data with the IRS. Companies are also required to send out copies of these forms to the employees and subcontractors whom the forms are issued to. These filings are critical for those taxpayers who file early and have refundable credits. The IRS will be cross checking income data from 1040 filings with actual data submitted by companies in an ongoing effort to combat fraud and identity theft. This was part of the PATH act enacted a few years ago. If you need help with assembling the data and submitting these forms, please call my office. We have all of the tools needed to assist you with these critical tasks.
